Mission
HMSA’s vision is to be Hawaii’s overwhelming choice in health plans
and services by delivering unmatched value through innovation, exceptional quality,
unparalleled service, and well-earned trust.
The purpose of the Hawaii Medical Service Association is to function exclusively
for the benefit of the community for the promotion of social welfare, including
the furnishing of medical, nursing, hospital, and health care and other services
and benefits for its members and their families, and from which no profit shall
inure to the Association or any of its members.
More specifically:
- To ensure the availability of a variety of choices of health care coverage to everyone
in our community.
- To provide and improve benefit programs to meet the health care needs of our members
at a reasonable cost.
- To maintain a cost containment program to monitor and contain the increasing cost
of health care.
- To advance the level of medical care and services available to our members through
joint efforts with providers and health care agencies.
- To operate our business in a fiscally responsible manner.
- To provide efficient service at a reasonable operating cost.
- To conduct our business in a manner that enhances the dignity of members and employees.
- To conduct our business with respect for others.
- To make our administrative services available to government programs when such services
can best meet the needs of our community.
- To investigate and effect other appropriate programs that promote the social welfare
of our members.
The Hawaii Medical Service Association is a nonprofit, mutual benefit association founded
in Hawaii in 1938. It is the most experienced provider of health care coverage in the state.
HMSA is a member of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association, an association of independent
Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans.
HMSA is dedicated to providing Hawaii’s families with access to quality, affordable
health care. We are also committed to improving the health and well-being of all HMSA
members and the community through a variety of health education, promotion and prevention
programs and other community services.
